Swing Dance Cumbria CYP Safeguarding Policy

Swing Dance Cumbria is primarily an adult group. If under-18s attend, they will always be supervised by at least one adult with a valid Enhanced DBS Certificate for work with children, registered with the DBS Update Service and verified by the committee.

•   The group currently includes several members who hold suitable enhanced DBS certificates. Any of these members may act as supervisors for minors, provided:

1. Their DBS certificate covers the child workforce.

2. Their certificate has been verified through the DBS Update Service by the committee.

3. They have agreed to follow the group’s safeguarding policy and understand their responsibilities.

  • At least two adults should be present whenever a minor attends any class or event.

• The group will maintain a short safeguarding policy that sets out:

• No adult will have unsupervised, one-to-one contact with a minor.

• Under-18s will always be supervised by a verified DBS-checked adult.

• Parents or guardians are welcome to remain present.

• Any safeguarding concerns will be recorded and handled by the designated safeguarding lead.

Swing Dance Cumbria is an inclusive community that welcomes people of all abilities. While our activities do not involve regulated care work, the committee recognises its duty to act if any adult appears to be at risk of harm, neglect, or exploitation. Concerns regarding an adult should be reported to the safeguarding lead, who will seek advice or make a referral if necessary.

This arrangement ensures legal compliance and flexibility, allowing any appropriately vetted committee member to supervise minors when needed.
